about

The Meloscribe days of mine are through, but may the songs long live on. I'm releasing today a collection of songs I put out under that name, mastered and polished up for all to hear under Alex Koman. The songs are mainly childhood memories, though they also include a song from a dream and a song for my parents' 45th wedding anniversary I wrote for them at their party two years ago. I love them so much and want the music to be preserved along with the memories forever, so that I can remember them for years to come while I grow into new ages. I appreciate my family and friends in the songs so many, many times a million love units, as well as all of you who support and love me. Thank you for making the music possible and for listening, for caring, and for bringing so much joy to this soul, even when times are rough and hard. You're the reasons why I continue to push through and persevere musically and otherwise. Your musical friend always, Alex Koman.

Track Name: Free as a Penny
Dad had a flying eagle
His mom gave him for graduation
He bought a buffalo in place of a ‘55

It only had three legs
But it was so much more real
Than his apparently counterfeit Mercury dime

I was free as a penny when I was a boy
But lost all my liberties that brought me such joy
Those untarnished memories cannot be destroyed
I’ll always be able to recollect my coins

Dad had an empty green folder
He bought me one day
I ordered a slabbed doubled die

It had the profile of Lincoln
And in mint state condition
Professional Coin Grading Service-certified

I was free as a penny when I was a boy
But lost all my liberties that brought me such joy
Those untarnished memories cannot be destroyed
I’ll always be able to recollect—

Now that I’m older and unable to drive
I remember those times and the shows
We traveled far distances, mostly by car
Taking our coins on highways and boulevards

I was free as a penny when I was a boy
But lost all my liberties that brought me such joy
Those untarnished memories cannot be destroyed
I’ll always be able to recollect—
I'll always be able to recollect—
I'll always be able to recollect my coins
Track Name: The Stillness of the Brave
Hiding cross-legged inside of Boone’s Cave
Heavily breathing the green on the rocks
I imagine the greatness once living here
A courageous explorer in this river refuge

Crickets are quieted by the walls of the boulders
In the darkness, I’m finding relief
It’s cool in this place where I am alone
I’m riding the stillness of the brave

I don’t know the history that’s happened since
That time long ago and this twenty sixteen
But I have a view of the river and underbrush
It’s the light of the forest infiltrating the stone

Crickets are quieted by the walls of the boulders
In the darkness, I’m finding relief
It’s cool in this place where I am alone
I’m riding the stillness of the brave

I’m going to rise, and I’m going to leave
But I’ve loved this rocky reprieve

Crickets are quieted by the walls of the boulders
In the darkness, I’m finding relief
It’s cool in this place where I am alone
I’m riding the stillness of the brave
Track Name: One Flip from My Ear
Listening to your records
Is like remembering the years
The stories you always told
The circles you always ran in

Putting the needle down
Peaks and valleys appear
Along the path of the moment
Like a periodic sound

When I hear these 45s,
I'm thinking of your married life
Each minute and every turn, turn
When I know the vinyl's done
I'm thinking how you've overcome
Because the music doesn't stop here
One flip from my ear

All the awesome things you've done
All the many trips and tears
You'll never know what you've begun
'Til tomorrow is standing clear

I'm so grateful for you, Dad
And Mom, not sure where I'd be
If you hadn't turned in the papers
So you could adopt me

When I hear these 45s,
I'm thinking of your married life
Each minute and every turn, turn
When I know the vinyl's done
I'm thinking how you've overcome
Because the music doesn't stop here
One flip from my ear

I've been here, watching, absorbing
Observing the things that you do
How you treat each other became my behavior
So now, I am songful too

When I hear these 45s,
I'm thinking of your married life
Each minute and every turn, turn
When I know the vinyl's done
I'm thinking how you've overcome
Because the music doesn't stop here
One flip from my ear

When I hear these 45s,
I'm thinking of your married life
Each minute and every turn, turn
When I know the vinyl's done
I'm thinking how you've overcome
Because the music doesn't stop here
One flip from my ear
Track Name: World Class Track Meet
When I was three or four, we got a video game system
Our buddies down on Arbor Road showed us how to use it
They liked to run and jump on the foot mat controller
To break Olympic records and race against each other

Gathering at our house before the television set
They were well-trained athletes, virtually gold medalists!
Watching them warm up as they turned the console on
My sister and I were silent, ‘til the starting pistol went off

Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, socks against the pad!
Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, beating it with their hands!
Characters hurdled over all those pixels on the screen
Adrenaline was pumping at the World Class Track Meet

Without a single pause, the long jump and the dash
And then the triple jump... and the tournament mode at last!
When everything was through, the players climbed the stand
To bask in victory until the next round began!

Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, socks against the pad!
Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, beating it with their hands!
Characters hurdled over all those pixels on the screen
Adrenaline was pumping at the World Class Track Meet

I could feel it in my body, although everything was play
The reality—that they were my heroes—rings true today

Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, socks against the pad!
Stomp! Stomp! On the floor, beating it with their hands!
Characters hurdled over all those pixels on the screen
Adrenaline was pumping at the World Class Track Meet
Track Name: Throw and Catch
Playing ball was so frustrating in the backyard with my dad
I was a perfectionist and got angry for getting mad
Missing the ball was not an option but not because of Dad
I competed against myself but it hardly made me glad

I tried to throw him a curveball, but then he caught my drift
I tried to throw him an angry glance, but he never caught a glimpse
I tried to throw him for a loop, but he caught on way too fast
I was about to throw in the towel, and I caught a break at last

Playing ball made me so angry I threw tantrums in the yard
I neglected all the positives and to see I’d come so far
Missing the ball was a huge letdown, because it didn’t seem that hard
The only way I could feel better was to catch my dad off-guard

I tried to throw him a curveball, but then he caught my drift
I tried to throw him an angry glance, but he never caught a glimpse
I tried to throw him for a loop, but he caught on way too fast
I was about to throw in the towel, and I caught a break at last

Dad finally missed the ball, it went way over his head
Suddenly he was human and not a catching machine instead
I took a sigh and told him sorry for the mean things that I said
We kept on playing without pressure, our game of throw and catch

I tried to throw him a curveball, but then he caught my drift
I tried to throw him an angry glance, but he never caught a glimpse
I tried to throw him for a loop, but he caught on way too fast
I was about to throw in the towel, and I caught a break at last
Track Name: Would You Come Back to Life?
Remember your memory
And how much you loved your wife
Remember your loyalty
And how your kids stayed at your side

If I could go right over to your house tonight
If I could lift your spirit and make you come alive
If I could play my music for you one more time
Would you come back to life?

Remember your generosity
And how you treated her so kind
Remember your bravery
And how you stayed strong 'til the decline

If I could go right over to your house tonight
If I could lift your spirit and make you come alive
If I could play my music for you one more time
Would you come back to life?

I remember your memory
And how much you loved your wife

If I could go right over to your house tonight
If I could lift your spirit and make you come alive
If I could play my music for you one more time
Would you come back to life?
Track Name: Pouring into Me
It's my biggest fault, I'm too nice
And I gave her a lot of me
So I got led on, truthfully
Because I am incomplete

But there's you, please don't leave
I double took, because I was angry
She passed us by, and all I knew
Empty buckets need to be poured into

Then when you ran away so quickly
I was scared you wouldn't listen
And all our water would go missing

This time, I am pouring into me
This time, I am splashing around 'til I'm floating on victory
This time, I am pouring into me
I’m gonna overflow 'til love is all I ever know

I didn't mean that it was her
I wanted to invest in
I need a second chance
I'm sorry I felt like I had to glance

And when you ran away that quickly
I didn't get to explain, I'd been living the drain

This time, I am pouring into me
This time, I am splashing around 'til I'm floating on victory
This time, I am pouring into me
I’m gonna overflow 'til love is all I ever know

I only need a moment to wash the fear over my shoulder
If my heart gets wetter, I can love you better

This time, I am pouring into me
This time, I am splashing around 'til I'm floating on victory
This time, I am pouring into me
I’m gonna overflow 'til love is all I ever know

I am pouring into me
Track Name: The Summit at the School
In first grade, there was a dirt hill right outside our classroom building
We spent entire recesses creating, digging, drilling
We wanted to construct a home that we could stay inside
I made piles of gravel for imaginary lights

As we tried to tunnel through it, we knew it could take years
But it was job security for our playtime careers
Though we had to get permission and teacher supervision
They let us run amuck until they finally brought the truck

They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, it felt like a blow
They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, one day here, next day no

We were devastated, because we never had anticipated
It would be temporary, their hauling was unnecessary!
Our lives were ruined, robbed of pride
They let us build a hovel then they came with the shovel

They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, it felt like a blow
They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, one day here, next day no

We threw away all our sticks and tools
We tried to have a funeral, but even that got overruled
We threw away all our sticks and tools
We bade farewell to the summit at the school

They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, it felt like a blow
They tore it down, tore it down, goodbye to the mud mound
We were not glad to watch it go, one day here, next day no
Track Name: My Storybook Cassette Tape
I always got the same book with my own library card
I felt just like a grown-up, since it had my signature
Mom would go and take me too, when she had to borrow
The new installment in the series of Sue Grafton novels

Boom, boom, crash, bang, thundering and lightning
My storybook cassette tape would say to change the page
Safe in cars, safe at home but not safe under trees
My storybook cassette tape, would say to change it please

Mom would check out at the front for us when it was time to leave
She was eager to go home and unfold the mysteries
I would request her music player, I couldn’t wait until tomorrow
To listen and to read along, so I could know it thorough

Boom, boom, crash, bang, thundering and lightning
My storybook cassette tape would say to change the page
Safe in cars, safe at home but not safe under trees
My storybook cassette tape, would say to change it please

Every time I put my finger underneath to lift the page
I knew exactly what was coming and what the tape would play
On the other hand, my mom never knew what to expect
I preferred consistency, but she preferred suspense

Boom, boom, crash, bang, thundering and lightning
My storybook cassette tape would say to change the page
Safe in cars, safe at home but not safe under trees
My storybook cassette tape, would say to change it please
Track Name: The Fruit in the Yard
The fruit in the yard was so majestic
When the nets were draped everywhere
The squirrels and the birds couldn't get to it
So we thought, not even the bears!

The fruit in the yard made me delighted
When each year it came inside
The squirrels and the birds had nothing to steal
'Cause my family had made it all into a meal!

Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
We filled our tummies with what we grew!
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
Got plump with time, and we did too!

The fruit in the yard made for an aching belly
When this little boy had way too much jelly
The squirrels and the birds could have my share
I'd throw it all out 'cause without any doubt

Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
We filled our tummies with what we grew!
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
Got plump with time, and we did too!

Didn't matter how much or how little I'd eat
Today I am fatter, but I hope just as sweet

Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
We filled our tummies with what we grew!
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
Got plump with time, and we did too!

Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
We filled our tummies with what we grew!
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, apples
Got plump with time, and we did too!
